The first headlights on snowmobiles where round sealed-beam lights that came from the automotive industry. Square sealed-beam lights came next. It wasn’t until the replaceable bulb that headlights could even begin to shape to contours around the hood. But it wasn’t until recently that headlights began to shape up. Now they form many shapes to compliment the hood style and whether the sled uses a single lens with dual bulbs, dual lenses with single bulbs, dual lenses with multiple bulbs or a single lens with a single bulb, the headlight now becomes a factor in how a sled looks. Some headlights look like cat’s eyes (intentionally) while others look mean. The subject of what the best looking headlight is is purely speculative. This is an area where my tastes may differ from yours.
The shape of the headlight should complement the shape of the hood, and while most of the sleds do, some look like they were an afterthought or just don’t really belong. The REV XP edges out the competition as the stylized headlight lens adds to the overall look of the machine. They sit flush with the frame and are contoured to let snow and wind go around them and not build up over them. Yamaha is a close second and while the Polaris lens also allows snow to go around them, they just look bulbous and not that appealing.
The REV XP headlights edge out all the others when it comes to style and function.
