2009 Sled Tech Preview - Best Hand Warmers: Ski-Doo. Needs improvement: Yamaha
09/22/2008 - Shane Zeppelin

Years ago these used to be dealer installed options, or you'd order a set from Dennis Kirk and put them on yourself, but today's sledder insists handwarmers are standard; and so it goes - they are standard on today's snowmobiles. But not all handwarmers are the same.

Ski-Doo's handwarmers felt like they worked the best, no matter what engine was under the hood. I kept turning the Ski-Doo hand warmers to 'low' or even 'off' a lot of times as my hands stayed warm most of the time. It seems the output of their alternator was more than adequate and their switches are easy to locate and use.

Yamaha’s warmers work overall and their rocker controls are awesome, but when it gets darn-right cold, they tend not to warm your extremities. We’re not sure if they need a larger output stator or changes in their electronics, but the handwarmers definitely need to be improved.
